National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine

“Thank you for this fantastic experience. NYLF/MED made me, a person who was once afraid of both hospitals and blood, realize that medicine was the one thing I wanted to do with my life and I have never turned back since I learned that about myself. Not only did I understand much more about medical school, but I also made friends all over the US and the world and I continue to keep in touch with them and I am even going to visit. Those who have not been in this program cannot even begin to understand the kind of friends you can make in ten days and how hard it is to leave them. It makes you strong enough to take risks and go some place life-changing for college. I would recommend anyone to this program--the sheltered people, and the outgoing people. The staff and directors of the Boston program I went to are some of the most charismatic people I have ever met. I seriously want to go back!”

—Shobha Narasimhan, Canton, Michigan
NYLF/MEDICINE Scholar, Summer 2006

“NYLF/Medicine opened doors of opportunity in medicine. It showed me that becoming a doctor is more about service than designing a wealthy career. More than anything, it excited me about so many different areas of medicine, and this program has encouraged me to learn more about volunteering in my own area. None of this experience was what I expected- in fact it was so much better! The friends I made, and the experience I had will remain a part of me forever.”

—Lexy Cook, Healdsburg, California
NYLF/MEDICINE Scholar, Summer 2006

“Excellent opportunity to see first hand what a physician does on a day-to-day basis. This experience has helped my son Stephen to focus on a career in medicine. A worthwhile and engaging experience he will never forget.”

—Robert Chaponis, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
Parent of NYLF/MEDICINE scholar Stephen Chaponis, Summer 2004

“I believe that NYLF/Med was a wonderful experience for my son. He was able to grow as a person and a member of society thru NYLF. Hopefully, everyone can experience what my son did.”

—Nancy Sanchez, Rio Rico, Arizona
Parent of NYLF/MEDICINE scholar, Summer 2004

“I arrived at NYLF with an expectation to either decide for or against medicine as a career. I came with a focus on solely finding out whether medicine was right for me. I quickly discovered, though, that the NYLF experience was much more than just about career exploration. Day in and day out I met amazing, ambitious students from all across the United States. I walk away from NYLF with evermore interest in pursuing a career in medicine … and I look back at ten blissful days filled with memories made with now life-long friends.”

—Henry Soong, Schaumburg, Illinois
NYLF/MEDICINE scholar, Summer 2006

....

“The National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine was an incredible experience for me because it opened my eyes to the medical field in a way I did not know was possible. I learned so much information about getting into med schools and residency programs.”

—Susan Lee, La Canada, California
NYLF/MEDICINE scholar, Summer 2006

National Youth Leadership Forum on Law

“The NYLF/LAW program was hands down the most amazing experience of my life. Working on the mock trial, the Supreme Court case, touring Capitol Hill, and seeing the War Memorials was amazing. What made my trip so special were the people that I met. I feel like I made some lifelong friends, even if we live on opposite sides of the country. If you're nominated, do not pass up on this amazing opportunity!”

—Tyler Miller, Greentown, Pennsylvania
NYLF/LAW scholar, Spring 2007

....

“The NYLF Forum on Law was an incredible experience for me. I got the chance to experience a law school class, hear distinguished attorneys speak, visit a top law firm, and ask the attorneys any question I could think of. I encourage everyone interested to go, you will get valuable insight you might not get otherwise.”

—Julianne Freeman, Goshen, New York
NYLF/LAW scholar, Spring 2007

....

“We are amazed at the depth and professionalism our son came home with after attending the forum. The curriculum was excellent and the competition very healthy. Thank you for sending home a mature, competitive, well versed future lawyer. We are grateful!”

“The program helped to re-enforce her interest in Law. It gave her a true sense of the hard work it would entail to achieve a degree in this field. Not only was it extremely educational and informative, it was a once in a lifetime experience that she will never forget. She made so many friends from all over the country and that helped to make this experience truly unforgettable. The staff and coordinators are to be commended for a job well done! Erin would love to attend the forum again if she could. A+++ rating!”

National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security

“Going into NYLF, I was really interested in the Diplomacy section of the forum. After the simulation and learning that took place, I can't wait to begin a career for the State Department or maybe even consider a career in Intelligence. Thanks NYLF for making this forum one of the best experiences of my life!”

—Charley Adams, Galax, Virginia
NYLF/DID scholar, Spring 2007

“NYLF changed who I am. Before I left for the trip, I got sick and was dreading going; I just wanted to get it over with and say I'd done it. Once I got to the Westpark though, it all changed. You get ripped from home and thrown in a group of people you don't know and don't care about, but somehow over the course of the next few days, you bond with those people, and I myself made 20 friends I'll never forget. Before I got to NYLF I thought the simulation would be just like a Model United Nations conference, but I found it to be so much more worthwhile than anything I'd done regarding policy or decision-making at school. I learned a lot more about government than I thought I would and once I realized what we had, insider access to the capital city of the free world, and I enjoyed the trip much more. Thank you everyone for making what could've been a boring and long trip into an exciting experience I'll never forget.”

—Justin Zbierski, Foothill Ranch, California
NYLF/DID scholar, Spring 2007

“Matt's experience at NYLF was awesome! He was a little nervous about going on this trip and not knowing anyone who would be there. He had a great time, met some new friends, and learned so much about our government, diplomacy, intelligence, and our country's defense. It was a wonderful opportunity that we will all remember for a lifetime.”

—Stephanie Gabor, Hixson, Tennessee
Parent of NYLF/DID scholar Matt Gabor, Summer 2005

“Learning experiences like NYLF-DID are few and far between. Listening to lectures and reading from text in the classroom are a very important part of the learning process, however, when one has the opportunity to learn in a controlled atmosphere that is created for the students in a very unique setting, we as parents owe it to our children to experience this onsite classroom. Chad was motivated and challenged by the simulation exercises at the conclusion. Any young person that is mentally charged by the excitement of learning and the challenge of using their mind to develop solutions will benefit greatly from this experience.”

—Jill Bianco, Dearborn, MI
