When enrolling in the Forum on Medicine in Philadelphia you can choose to take part in the special nursing session, where you will come to understand the critical role of nurses in addressing today’s most urgent healthcare issues, and examine how a rapidly aging population, advances in medical technology, healthcare cost containment and a growing focus on prevention and wellness are impacting the nursing profession and your opportunities in this critical field.

During this special nursing session, you will discover whether a career in the medical field is right for you. You will have the unparalleled opportunity to see, through a nurse’s eyes, the moment-by moment joys and difficulties of this personally rewarding profession. At the program, you will:

  • Define personal and professional goals, strengthen leadership capabilities and explore the vast number of exciting choices open to you in the field of healthcare.
  • Be welcomed at prestigious medical institutions where you will discover the important steps you must take to prepare for success.
  • Take part in in-depth seminars and workshops led by practicing nursing professionals.
  • Shadow and observe dedicated nurses in action, meet with professors and nursing students, and gain an understanding of the important academic preparation necessary for a future in medicine or nursing.

  • Walk in the footsteps of our Founding Fathers while exploring historic Philadelphia. See Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were created, and the Liberty Bell, which rang out to the citizens of Philadelphia on July 8, 1776.
  • Enjoy a weekend day at Dorney Park & Wild Water Kingdom with an exclusive catered picnic BBQ.
  • Close your Forum with an incredible gala at an exclusive country club location.

CLINICAL INSTITUTIONS:

Students have a wide variety of choices for their clinical visits, where they will participate in hands-on activities while learning about medical education. Past visits have included:

  • Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (the leading pediatric hospital in the   nation)
  • Christiana Care Health System
  • Penn Presbyterian Medical Center
  • Shriners Hospitals for Children

Speakers who have participated in past Philadelphia Forums include:

Brian McDonough, M.D., a former medical reporter for Fox news, he has quickly become Philadelphia's Family Physician. He has received virtually every major award in broadcasting including Emmy Awards and the Jules Bergman Award (national medical broadcaster of the year).

Daniel V. Schidlow, M.D., Professor and Chair, Department of Pediatrics, Drexel University College of Medicine and Physician-in-Chief, St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.
