National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) scholars are nominated by their teachers or mentors, alumni of this or other NYLF programs or are nominated based on information provided on voluntary pre-college surveys, such as the National Research Center for College and University Admissions' Talent Identification Program.

All scholars who attend in Fall 2008 are in the 10^th through 12^th grade at the time of attendance. Scholars attending a session this summer must be in the 9^th through 11^th grade during the 2008/2009 academic year. The Forum on Law and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) sets the strictest standards for nomination and enrollment, as only the nation's highest-achieving students qualify for selection. This standard ensures an unparalleled experience for Law and CSI scholars who develop relationships with peers that benefit them for life.
