International Scholars choosing to continue their IYLF journey will travel to Hangzhou and Shanghai, enabling them to experience the best of traditional China and also discover how it has completely transformed itself into one of the world’s leaders in economic growth.

Hangzhou, one of the seven ancient Chinese capitals, is famous for its natural beauty, history, culture and 2,200-year-old heritage. Shanghai is China's modern metropolis, serving as one of the Far East centers of economic development, finance, trade and shipping.

In Hangzhou, scholars will be treated to a guided exploration of private gardens, experience traditional shows, embark on a sampan-style boat excursion and ride bikes around the beautiful West Lake, as well discover ancient Pagodas and enjoy an authentic Chinese dinner in Hangzhou’s Old Town. In Shanghai, scholars will explore Frenchtown, the heart of this bustling city, enjoy a traditional Shanghai welcome dinner and will marvel at the stunning "Intersection of Time" Multimedia Theatrical Spectacular, a combination of Chinese acrobatic arts and modern technology. A special guided site exploration of the Shanghai aquarium and lunch at the famous Yu Gardens Market is also included. Scholars will also take part in a very special examination of the Jade Buddha Temple and the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum before enjoying a final celebration dinner in the rooftop restaurant in the Pearl TV Tower, which slowly rotates high above the city. Scholars complete their China Add-On adventure by departing the city for Shanghai Airport and their return home on a 250 MPH Mag-Lev train.
