Atyel's Story
I wrote letters to all of the organizations in my town, such as the Lions Club, Kiwanis, Garden Club and I let them know who I was and the reason I was fundraising. Most of the clubs and pharmacies mailed me a check for at least $100.00.
My mom knows how to make hot tamales, so we put up a sign-up sheet for tamales in the teacher's lounge at school. Each dozen cost $6.00. My mom and I sold tamales for an entire semester. Each teacher that placed an order knew that the money was for me to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine. Not only would they place an order, but sometimes they would make donations.
The prices may not seem to be much, but they do add up, and each fundraiser was definitely worthwhile.
